Specifically designed for outdoor use in garden railways, we offer an alternative to our CTC-IR-Beacon : Instead of optical infrared signals, we utilize Near Field Communication (NFC) .
The positioning and automation capabilities of the CTC-NFC-Reader are identical to those of the IR receiver. However, with NFC, it is not possible to influence the transmitted data. Only a globally unique number is transmitted, which is already stored by the manufacturer in the NFC-Beacon . The meaning of an NFC beacon is cyclically (every second) transmitted by the CTC-App to all CTC-Modules.
Two Variants
The NFC-Reader is available in two versions:
- The red NFC-Reader measures 40 mm x 42 mm and has an integrated antenna.
- The NFC-Reader-Mini (28 mm x 17 mm) features an external antenna (10 mm x 25 mm) on an approx. 80 mm long cable.

It is mounted under the locomotive so that a reading distance of approx. 1 to 2 cm is achieved.
The large NFC-Reader requires several centimeters of clearance from metal, while the antenna of the NFC-Reader-Mini can even be placed directly on metal surfaces. This allows the NFC-Reader-Mini to function with Märklin H0 scale locomotives, whose chassis are typically largely made of metal.
Due to the small size of the antenna, it must be positioned precisely in the center under a locomotive axle.
Note: The cable between antenna and reader must neither be shortened nor extended.
Connection
The NFC-Reader is connected with 4 wires to the CTC-Loco-Module-G2 or CTC-Loco-Module-G .
For the Mini, the cable supplied by the manufacturer (elechouse) unfortunately has incorrect colors:
Note: For small garden railway locomotives, the CTC-Loco-Module-M3-G or the CTC-Loco-Module-PluX22 with NFC plug can be used.
