Turnouts with Double-Coil Drive
The double-coil drive is the standard drive in the H0 gauge, sometimes also lovingly called “click-click”. It consists of two electromagnets, one each for the two switching directions. It is connected with three cables: a common power supply and one switching line per electromagnet.
Note: Some double-coil drives do not switch off or do so unreliably once the end position is reached. If these are switched with continuous current, the electromagnet will burn through or stick to plastic guides within a few seconds. Such damage is usually irreversible.

Motorized Turnouts (2-wire)
Drives with a motor, which is controlled with inverted polarity depending on the switching direction. A special feature here is the LGB turnout drive, which sounds like a double coil drive (click-click), but actually contains a motor.

Motorized Turnouts (3-wire)
Motor-driven turnouts allow for a realistic slow and smooth switching of the turnout. To make replacing the double coil drive as easy as possible, various manufacturers offer such turnouts with a three-wire connection.
